Hi! I'm Ms. B! Please read below to learn a little about me!
Last Internship Class 2015 Before graduation!
I like to paint whenever I can!
I take pictures wherever I am! It's my favorite thing to do! :)
These are my two dogs, Gracey and Riley. Gracey is the black cockapoo on the left with white on her. She is 8 years old! Riley is the buff colored cockapoo on the right. He is 10 years old! <3 <3 <3
To the right, I have posted a grid of photos that help to describe me. Some of the photos I have taken and some are just photos that mean something to me. Enjoy :)
Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!
Hello! My name is Laura Barnes, the Professional School Counselor at South Greenville Elementary (SGE). I am so excited to be apart of the Cheetah Family again for the 2015-2016 school year!
A little about me.. I graduated with a Masters in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Higher Education Counseling from East Carolina University (ECU). I am currently a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional School Counselor in the state of North Carolina, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I am an active member of the American Counselor Association and I have recently joined NAMI to advocate for Mental Health in NC. Prior to becoming a School Counselor, I taught at Lakeforest Elementary as a Fourth Grade Teacher and I loved it! I have also taught Second and Fifth Grades in both Pitt and Beaufort Counties. Before teaching, I worked at Sylvan Learning Center, in Mental Health and I also worked for Department of Social Services. I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from ECU with a minor in Sociology. I have lived and worked in Greenville since I attended undergraduate school from 2003-2006.
Some of you may be wondering what a School Counselor does to help a school like SGE grow? Well, as a School Counselor, I am here to help and listen to my students, staff, and parents when needed. As a Counselor, I promise to take your problems seriously and work with you to find a good solution. I am here not only to help with problems, but to provide tips and support on making good choices at school, at home, and in the community! Don't hesitate to ask any of these questions to me by stopping by my office, emailing me, or calling me. I am also plugged in to the rest of the school community and, in many cases, the outside community as well. So, I am able to refer my students to outside resources like professional therapists and even health clinics if needed. I look forward to being apart of and helping the Students and Staff grow again this year at SGE!
